Amy Stein, M.P.T.

Amy Stein Amy Stein received her BA from Washington University in St Louis, MO and her Masters in Physical Therapy from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She is a doctoral candidate at Nova Southeastern University. After graduate school Amy moved to NYC, where she has been working with pelvic floor dysfunction, women's health and orthopedic manual therapy for over 9 years. She is a contributor to the medical textbook, "Female Sexual Pain Disorders: Evaluation and Management", explaining physical therapy treatment and pelvic floor dysfunction. Amy has been interviewed by Dr. Max Gomez from NBC nightly news and by many publications including the New York Daily News, Explore: The Journal Of Science and Healing, ABC's Healthology and ourgyn.com, and lectures nationwide on physical therapy and pelvic floor dysfunction. Some of the publications include, "Pelvic Floor Dysfunction can cause Vulvar, Vaginal, Pelvic Pain", "Pregnant & achy? Had a baby & still hurting?" "Easing the Pain Below", "Explaining Pelvic Pain", and "Physical Therapy and the Treatment of Endometriosis". She has been a Board Member of the International Pelvic Pain Society (www.pelvicpain.org) since 2007. Amy continues to be a member of many associations and organizations (American Physical Therapy Association’s women's health section, Interstitial Cystitis Association, The Prostatitis Foundation, Endometriosis Association, National Vulvodynia Association, Interstitial Cystitis Network and The Women's Sexual Health Foundation).

Amy set out to create a new type of practice which would take a holistic approach to the patient's entire well being. She envisioned various professions working together to improve the patient's quality of life.

In 2003, this vision became Beyond Basics Physical Therapy in New York City, which has a primary focus on Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, Pelvic Pain and manual therapy in men, women and children. In the office there are 5 physical therapists, a yoga instructor and an acupuncturist of whom all specialize in the treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction and women's health.
